The "Rent is Too Damn High" Initiative to the Legislature proposes a three (3) percent rent cap and reasonable reforms to out-of-control rent increases displacing working families and the most vulnerable in our society--our children and elders. Regrettably, the rent crisis was ignored by our state Legislature as they capitulated to landlords and investors. IL25-846 seeks to lessen the housing instability landing Washington state among the top five in the nation for homelessness. Tragically, our research and the data finds elders 62+ to be the fastest growing homeless demographic in Washington and nationally. And the OSPI reported more than 42,000 homeless children in our school system last year. So we are grateful to the countless voters who've signed the Initiative, our volunteers, and the community organizations joining and endorsing this campaign for housing justice.
